C2 Charolais was created under the influence and mentorship of my aunt and uncle, Lloyd and Lorraine Cavers at Neepawa, MB. Lloyd is my ultimate mentor and quite frankly my idol. We strive to conduct our business in the same way that Cavers Charolais and Riley’s Red Angus was known for; being honest, hardworking and putting quality before quantity.
I was born and raised in La Riviere and started farming quickly after school was done. My love of cattle at an early age always outshone the other aspects of farming life. Little by little that was the direction the farm was heading. Jackie and I met in 2005 and spent a year in Camrose, AB where she worked as an AHT at a vet clinic. In 2012, we decided to move to the family farm to kick off our cattle business.
Our business team consists of… US! Jackie and I with our three boys make this cattle farm run. We all take part in every aspect of this cattle operation; from pail feedings, tractor chores, making/cutting hay, baling, marketing, showing cows to mucking out the stalls in the barn (this is good for the soul!!), we are all in this together… and love it!
As a family we do try to find that important balance between work, play and community. Cattle shows, volunteering and 4H is how we have fun doing business. We love new adventures, and what better way to experience them than going camping, fishing, hunting, dirt biking/quadding, kayaking and sometimes a little golfing. OH! And who can forget watching hockey!
We value our animals and the land they live off. By practicing and adapting an intense, rotational grazing plan, we have been able to increase our grazing capacity on 2 different restricted land bases near our farm. These pastures are capable of retaining more moisture, show better weed control and have allowed more species of native grasses to return. The actual number of grazing days has risen significantly since we incorperated this practice.
Our focus has always been to raise cattle for the beef industry, first and foremost!
